Data We Collect

We may collect the following personal information:

  • Name
  • Contact information, including email address

Like all other modern websites, we use cookies on our site. Cookies are small text files placed on users’ devices that track login information and allow for site analytics. Cookies themselves contain no personal information. You can opt-out of non-essential cookies or turn them off entirely by adjusting your web browser’s preferences; however, doing so may impact your ability to use all site features. For more information about how to change your cookie preferences, please refer to your web browser’s help function.

How We Use That Data

Oswego County Historical Society uses the collected data in the following ways:

  • In the case of name and email addresses: to answer patron inquiries received through the website’s various contact forms, or to contact patrons about upcoming promotions or events.

Oswego County Historical Society does not hold on to email addresses or names submitted through our contact forms, nor through payment processing. We will only capture and retain your email address when patrons specifically allow it, as with our newsletter signup form.

Embedded Content & Third-Party Websites

Our web pages may contain embedded content, such as YouTube videos. When content is embedded, it behaves as if you are accessing the website where that content is hosted. These websites have their own privacy policies and may collect personal data about you or use cookies themselves. The services we use are listed below.

  • The Oswego County Historical Society uses Curator.io to display our Facebook timeline on our site. Curator.io does not collect any data from our patrons. Facebook, however, has its own cookie and privacy policies over which we have no control. There is no installation of cookies from Facebook and your IP is not sent to a Facebook server until you use the feed to navigate to Facebook’s webpage. For more information, please refer to Facebook’s Privacy Policy.
  • Some of our web pages include embedded YouTube videos. YouTube has its own cookie and privacy policies over which we have no control. There is no installation of cookies from YouTube, and personal information like your IP Address is not collected until you use the embedded content to navigate directly to YouTube’s webpage. For more information, please refer to Google’s Privacy Policy.
  • When purchasing event tickets, memberships, and/or gift shop items on our website, your payments are processed through PayPal, and we do not see or control your personal data collected at the time of purchase. Please refer to PayPal’s Privacy Policy for more detailed information on how they secure your payment data.

Our web pages may also contain links to other websites of interest. Once you use these links to leave our site, you should note that we do not have control over other, third-party websites.

Please exercise caution and look at the privacy statement applicable to the website(s) in question before providing any additional information.

Controlling Your Personal Information

You may choose to restrict the use of your personal data in accordance with this privacy policy.
