Oswego, N.Y. — Inconceivable! The Oswego County Historical Society and Robert Berkeley Physical Therapy invite the public to “The Princess Bride” on Thursday, March 6th.
Join us for a story that has it all—fencing, giants, revenge, escape, and love, true love, between Westley (Cary Elwes) and his Princess Buttercup (Robin Wright) in this modern classic at 7:00 p.m. Thursday March 13 at Oswego Cinema 7, 138 W. Second Street. Carleen Palmitesso, committee chairperson, will be in costume as Inigo Montoya and local movie fan Luanne Crouch as the infamous Dread Pirate Roberts. Moviegoers are encouraged to dress in costume or simply join us “as you wish.”
Tickets for Retro Movie Night may be purchased in advance at the theatre, Rivers End Bookstore (19 West Bridge Street), or through the museum at 315-343-1342 or on our website. If the event doesn’t sell out, limited tickets may be available at the door.
Thanks to the generous support of Robert Berkeley, the Retro Movie Night series is in its second year of bringing a recent classic to the big screen. Berkeley also sponsors numerous other community events. Proceeds from this fundraising event support the upkeep and maintenance of the Richardson-Bates House Museum, the historic 19th century Italian Villa on Oswego’s east side, as well as the historical society’s collections and digitization projects that connect the community to local history.
Directed by Rob Reiner and originally released in 1987, “The Princess Bride” adapts William Goldman’s 1973 novel of the same name. The ensemble cast of this adventure fantasy comedy features Christopher Guest, Billy Crystal, Carol Kane, among others. In 2016, the film was selected by the Library of Congress for preservation in the United States National Film Registry as being “culturally, historically or aesthetically significant.
