Abstract

Over the years, many photographs have been donated to OCHS to preserve them for the public. These photos have been organized into three distinct content categories: buildings, portraits, and objects. The Buildings Photo Collection highlights the ever changing landscape of Oswego County, with a major focus on the City of Oswego.

Scope and Content

This collection features many views of Oswego County, however the following are some of the most relevant topics:

  • Bridges, including photos of the construction of the Utica Street bridge
  • Cemeteries such as Riverside Cemetery in Oswego, NY
  • Churches including but not limited to St. Mary’s, St. Paul’s, St. Peter’s, St. Louis, Trinity Methodist Episcopal, First Methodist Episcopal, First Presbyterian, and First Baptist of Oswego; Methodist Church of New Haven; Methodist-Episcopal Church of Phoenix; and Trinity Episcopal of Constantia
  • Street views of commercial businesses and industrial factories in Oswego, Fulton, Pulaski, Phoenix, Scriba, Hannibal, Mexico, Minetto, and Sandy Creek
  • Residences of prominent Oswegonians in the City of Oswego and the greater county
  • Schools including the Oswego Normal School (now SUNY Oswego) and grade schools
  • Harbor and lakeshore views, as well as views of the Oswego Canal
